Classics? We dont' need no stinkin' classics.......

It's Romeo and Juliet vs. West Side Story. Talbots vs. Betsey Johnson. Or even The Night Before Christmas vs. Holidays are Hell. (Kim Harrison's new release, and a title that makes me grin every time I see it.)

I adore pumpkin pie. I've tried the quick frozen variety (gag) but prefer my own, crust bought, homemade extra-spices filling. A real whipped cream on top. Or plain apple--lots of cinnamon and sugar, hold the caramel, or slices of cheese, etc.

However, my mom is talking about making a pumpkin pie with peanuts this year. We've got quite the crowd coming for Thanksgiving, and I'm sure everyone will love it. My husband, who adores peanuts, will be first in line. But I know if I'm not getting plain pumpkin pie there, then I'll have to make one at home. . . ;)

To the everlasting disdain of my fashionable daughters, I like my jeans dark, plain, and with a lovely blend of spandex. I like my sweaters thick, bulky, in muted heathers. My Eastland loafers. My white Keds.

But along side the classic twin sets and dark jeans, I have a new swing coat in purple velvet, with tarnished silver scroll buttons. It's gorgeous. I have no idea when or where I'll wear it. I just love to see it every morning, decorating my closet. And one day I'll put it on and march forth in style, leaving a trail of open mouths behind me.

So, are you a Classics gal? Or does your life have all the latest and greatest? Do you find yourself enjoying a mix of styles? And is there one special occasion (holidays, birthday cakes, evening dresses) where only one choice will do?

A randomly chosen commenter will receive a new Christmas release :)

I already outed myself on my blog as being a classic kind of girl, right down to my first C-section incision, more's the pity. My twin sets must number into double digits. I have TWO strands of cultured pearls. I do like weird jewelry, however, paired with the plaid skirts and blazers, so I'm not entirely bland. And my toenails are always secretly painted some subversive color.

I like my traditions but can't be called classic at all. I just kind of drift into weirdness without thinking. Like I wear long skirts all the time. With T-shrits. I'm not making a fashion statement. I'm wearing what comes easily to hand.

Maggie, I've got one of those (huge) scars myself, from a complete hysterectomy--really lovely, yes?

Alice, if my clothes aren't super comfy, all bets are off. I think long skirts and T's sound like casual Bohemian elegance, and I know my girls would approve ;)

Hm.....what does one call a person who loves sweat pants and oversized t-shirts? I don't quite fit into the classics nor the hip/weird camp.

I'm into lounge pants this year...super comfy when paired with my huge flannel winnie-the-pooh nightshirt. I'd wear it all day long if I didn't have to chauffer my kids anywhere. Le sigh...

I am a Levis and plain tshirt kind of gal. In the winter, I exchange the tshirt for a warm thermal top or hooded sweatshirt, or a combination of the two depending on how cold it is. I have my little black dress (and a dark burgundy one in the same style) for dressy occasions, which are few and far between here.

Ericka, that sounds so snuggly warm! I love winter :)

Terry Jo! hugs!! I bet your dress clothes and my dress clothes see about the same amount of daylight:)

I don't know if I'm into classics as much as I'm into basics. It seems I cannot own enough black or gray v-neck sweaters.

I admire people who dress boldly!

I suppose the fact that I sport the same hair-do I wore in highschool (and the fact that I've just used the word hair-do) makes me a classics girl.

I have, however, recently purchased a slinky green halter top with silver trim and a peek-a-boo window (not unlike that displayed by the super-hero serving turkey). Er...haven't actually worn it. Do I still get credit?

Tessa, long live the black sweater, friend to mothers too busy to coordinate everywhere!

India, of course that counts! Buying it is half the battle. And with your hair you look amazing in green! :)
